On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, Foreign Minister of the FDRE, met and held discussion with the Federal Foreign Minister of Switzerland.
They discussed on mutual interest between Ethiopia and Switzerland. To further enhance our bilateral economic relationship particularly in the areas of investment, the Foreign Minister of Switzerland has encouraged the Swiss private sector to invest and do business in Ethiopia. He also said, Switzerland will make sure that the bilateral economic ties will be a win win benefit for both countries.
More significantly, they raised the importance of avoidance of double taxation agreement to strengthen existing bilateral economic relationship. Having agreed to work together in expediting the signing of the agreement, they also exchanged views on global and regional issues of mutual interest.
Dr. Workneh explained the ongoing major political and economic reform, and measures taken to expand democratic and political space.
He further mentioned the bright political future of Ethiopia and its leadership commitment to build democracy, prevail rule of law and improve legislative frameworks. In this regard, he raised some legislations that have been under revision, which are important for laying strong democratic, economic and development foundations.
They agreed to continue the bilateral political consultations undertaken at the level of the State Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
